MedSaver is a hospital + savings plan from Medihelp. In 2026 it costs R4 260 a month for the main member, R3 504 for an adult dependant and R1 302 for a child.
Best for: Members who want the largest savings allocation (25%) and open hospital access, to manage day-to-day spend their way.

What MedSaver covers
- Hospitals you can use
- Open — any private hospital
- In hospital
- No overall annual limit. Any private hospital, plus day procedure facilities for certain day procedures.
- Day-to-day
- 25% of contribution to a savings account: R12 744/year main member, R10 512 dependant, R3 888 child. Full year's allocation available as a credit facility from January; unused funds roll over. Once depleted: R2 600/year per family for GP, specialist and acute/over-the-counter medicine.
- Chronic medication
- 271 PMB conditions and 26 CDL conditions covered in full, unlimited.
- Maternity
- 10 antenatal/postnatal consultations + 2 dietician/lactation consultations + 2 2D ultrasound scans + 9 months iron and folic acid supplements + newborn hearing screening.
- Dental
- Removal of impacted teeth in the dentist's chair only (DRC network). No routine dentistry benefit.
- Optical
- No dedicated optometry benefit.
- Mental health
- R31 800 per beneficiary (max R43 800 per family) per year for hospitalisation and professional psychiatric services. R4 200 per beneficiary per year for out-of-hospital depression treatment. R130 per beneficiary per month for medicine.
- PMBs (prescribed minimum benefits)
- Full PMB cover (271 conditions) plus 26 CDL, unlimited.
- Emergencies
- Netcare 911 emergency transport, unlimited in-country; R2 600 road / R17 700 air outside.
- Gap cover
- Recommended once the 25% savings account is depleted, for ongoing day-to-day needs.
