What MedVital covers
- Hospitals you can use
- Open — any private hospital
- In hospital
- No overall annual limit. Any private hospital, plus day procedure facilities for certain day procedures.
- Day-to-day
- No savings account. Insured day-to-day pool instead: R1 575/year member, R3 045/year family, for GP/specialist consultations, acute medicine, immunisations and physiotherapy.
- Chronic medication
- 271 PMB conditions and 26 CDL conditions covered in full, unlimited.
- Maternity
- 8 antenatal/postnatal consultations (midwife/GP/gynaecologist) + 1 dietician/lactation consultation + 2 2D ultrasound scans + newborn hearing screening — added insured benefit, activates after a verified health screening.
- Dental
- Removal of impacted teeth in the dentist's chair only (DRC network). No routine dentistry benefit.
- Optical
- No dedicated optometry benefit.
- Mental health
- R25 000 per beneficiary (max R38 200 per family) per year for hospitalisation and professional psychiatric services. R3 150 per beneficiary per year for out-of-hospital depression treatment. R100 per beneficiary per month for medicine.
- PMBs (prescribed minimum benefits)
- Full PMB cover (271 conditions) plus 26 CDL, unlimited.
- Emergencies
- Netcare 911 emergency transport, unlimited in-country; R2 600 road / R17 700 air outside. Trauma hospitalisation unlimited.
- Gap cover
- Yes — day-to-day cover is a small shared insured pool rather than open-ended.
