2027 increases

Your medical aid goes up in January. Here's by how much.

Every scheme on PlainAid has announced (or is about to announce) its 2027 prices. We put them side by side, plan by plan, from the schemes' own documents, so you can decide whether to stay or switch before the cut-off.

🎒 Explain it like I'm 15

Every January, medical aids put their prices up, a bit like your phone contract going up every year. Most are going up by around 7% to 9% for 2027. On a R3,000 plan, that's roughly R210 to R270 more a month. Once a year, you get the chance to change plans before the new prices start.

Can I change my plan for 2027?

Usually, yes. Most medical aids let you change plan once a year, and the change starts on 1 January. Each scheme sets its own cut-off date for requests, normally towards the end of the year, so don't leave it to the last week.

Moving to a cheaper plan saves money every month, but check what you'd give up first: hospitals, chronic medicine, maternity cover and day-to-day benefits. Moving to a different scheme can mean new waiting periods.
